Black Sheep Wood Works was born from a simple belief: the best things in life are made by hand, with intention, and built to last longer than the person who made them.
How It Started
It started in a garage in Ontario with a single slab of walnut, a belt sander, and a stubborn refusal to make anything ordinary. What began as a weekend obsession quickly became something more — a craft, a calling, and eventually, a business.
Every piece we make carries that same spirit. We don't run production lines. We don't chase trends. We work with the natural character of each slab — the knots, the grain, the live edges — and let the wood tell us what it wants to become.
The name? Black Sheep. Because we've never been interested in doing things the way everyone else does.

No two pieces alike
Every slab has a unique grain pattern, colour, and character. We celebrate that — we never try to make two pieces look the same.
Built for generations
We use joinery, finishes, and techniques that hold for decades. These aren't decorations — they're heirlooms in the making.
Ontario-sourced when possible
We source locally whenever we can, supporting Ontario mills and forests. Your piece carries the character of this land.
Honest materials, honest craft
No veneers. No shortcuts. Solid hardwood, premium epoxy, and finishes that protect without hiding the beauty underneath.
The Process
From Slab to Statement Piece
Select the slab
Every project starts with finding the right piece of wood. We source from local mills and trusted suppliers across Ontario.
Design with the grain
We work with the natural character of the wood — not against it. The grain, knots, and live edges inform every design decision.
Shape and pour
Hand-shaping, routing, and epoxy pours are done in our Ontario workshop. Each resin river is mixed and poured by hand.
Finish and deliver
Multiple coats of food-safe or furniture-grade finish, hand-sanded between each coat. Delivered to your door or picked up locally.
